Template ... Again

And a new link too.

I was browsing around and on a whim ran a search for "Blogger Templates" and came up with this site.

Nice templates and fairly easy instructions, though it did take me a bit to get my links and such up.

If you are looking for something different, check them out.

Don't Talk to the Parrot

My MIL sent this to me at work. I just about died laughing.

Wanda's dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told the repairman, "I'll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I'll mail you a check."

"Oh, by the way don't worry about my bulldog. He won't bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT, under ANY circumstances, talk to my parrot!"

"I REPEAT, DO NOT TALK TO MY PARROT!!!"

When the repairman arrived at Wanda's apartment the following day, he discovered the biggest, meanest looking bulldog he has ever seen. But, just as she had said, the dog just lay there on the carpet watching the repairman go about his work. The parrot, however, drove him nuts the whole time with his incessant yelling, cursing and name calling.

Finally the repairman couldn't contain himself any longer and yelled, "Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!"

To which the parrot replied, "Get him, Spike!"

Self Defense

Gunner sent me this story the other day, and I got a really good chuckle out of it. I would be willing to bet that the scumbag will not be back there again.

However, there was a statement as part of the story that bothered me.

Sgt. Kevin Crow, head of the Shreveport police armed robbery unit, said he was happy no one was hurt but was quick to point out that not all of these situations end well."Legally you can always defend yourself if you feel threatened," Crow said. "But is this the best idea? No."Any time you are going against a guy with a gun, you have to ask yourself if your life is worth risking over some material item you have in your store or on your person. When it works out it's great ... But when it doesn't, usually the results are pretty tragic,"Crow said. The gun, police learned later, was not loaded. But there was no remorse from the students.

No Remorse?!? Why should they feel remorse for their act of self defense and the defense of their friends??

It has been established legally that the police are not there to defend us. Why should we not defend ourselves. "Because you might get hurt?" You might get hurt walking down the street.

My problem with not acting is when do you know you have gone past the point of just surrendering your stuff to some sleazebag and are now surrendering your life. I don't really see how you would know until you reach the point where he puts a gun to your head or a knife to your throat.

The protection or defense of your stuff is an extension of the defense of yourself. You have no way of knowing what they intend until they do it.

These ladies don't deserve even that little bit of criticism. If a robber went into someplace knowing that he might face something like that he might think twice about it.

An American

This was sent to me at work and while I don't know how accurate the story that accompanied it is, (I am sure it was not from last week as it is undated) but I liked what it said.

To Kill an American

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote the following to let everyone know what an American is... so they would know when they found one. (Good on ya, mate!!!!)

An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek.

An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan.

An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim.

In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need.

When the Soviet army overran Afghanistan 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan.

Americans welcome the best, the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best athletes. But they also welcome the least.

The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. I've been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 other countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must.

Hitler did.

So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the world.

But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.
